DPA Creative System · 2024 - 2025

The best ad Lounge had
didn’t look like Lounge at all.

Dynamic Product Ads are Lounge by Zalando's highest-performing format — nothing in the mix beats them on cost per lead. The catch: they looked like a spreadsheet with a discount sticker. Over two years, I rebuilt the DPA creative from end to end — templates, video, and the A/B testing behind them — to make the best-performing ad also look unmistakably like Lounge, without giving up a point of performance.

the Performance Marketing team · 2024–2025.

01 THE PROBLEM WAS THAT IT WORKED
THE TENSION

DPAs pull product straight from the catalog and assemble themselves — automated, personalized, endlessly scalable. They also won on every metric that mattered. That was exactly the problem: the ad driving the most leads was pre-rebrand, off-brand, and impossible to tell apart from any other retailer's discount feed.

There were ten potential template directions and no evidence behind any of them. The rebrand raised the stakes — everything had to feel like one brand — but nobody wanted to touch the format that was quietly carrying the channel. The mission set itself: beat the ugly one at its own game.

02 MAKING THE WINNER LOOK LIKE LOUNGE
2024 - 2025 DESIGNED & LED

The test that defined the project: the same product, the same −39% offer, run head-to-head. On the left, the format as inherited — product on white, partner logo, nothing else. On the right, the version I built — Lounge's identity up top, multi-layout, still catalog-driven. Same engine, brand added.

THE SYSTEM

︎︎︎ Multi-layout template with Lounge / Privé logo focus
︎︎︎ Single-DPA vs multi-layout, tested head-to-head
︎︎︎ Sales variant — adding "SOLDES" during the France sale period
︎︎︎ Video (PLV) templates for SE & FI
︎︎︎ Every size designed: 37 placements across Meta, with a naming convention to match

OUTCOME

The rollout completed in Q4: +1.12% CTR, +42% investment, +28% impressions, −16% CPL. The sharpest finding — the best-performing template carries only the brand- partner logo, no color accents. Restraint won. The branded ad didn't just match the old one; it edged it.

03 PROOF AT PEAK: BLACK FRIDAY
NOVEMBER 2025 RESULTS

If the rebuilt template was going to break, peak season would break it. It didn't.

+85% sign-up rate vs BAU
-30% cost per lead
+86% more orders
+5.59% ROAS

04 THE WINNER TRAVELS
2026 EXPANSION

Two years of testing produced something portable — a proven template logic, a naming system, and a clear read on what drives leads. Once the best-performing ad also looked like Lounge, it earned the right to leave Meta. In 2026, the system expanded to

Pinterest and TikTok, and the roadmap moved into the psychology of the click: scarcity, Social proof, authority, the power of free.

︎︎︎ A two-year mission: make the best-performing ad also the best-looking one.
︎︎︎ 8 of 10 templates tested · 37 placements across Meta.
︎︎︎ Branded rollout drove −16% CPL; the July campaign drove −32% CPL vs May.
︎︎︎ Nothing beat DPA — so in 2026 it travelled to Pinterest & TikTok.
